- General description:
The Samuel Moffitt House is located on Pleasant Street in the Village of Dayville. The structure is an example of the vernacular or ordinary Victorian house. It was built about 1870 and for thirty years was the home of Samuel L. Moffitt, a mason and carpenter of modest means. The building is small and simple with a decorative entrance hood and fancy porch details on the wing. The house has a central entry within a five-bay facade. Over the door is a hood or canopy supported on large scroll brackets with turned pendants and a vine-design in relief on the sides. There is a smaller wing to the south with a porch across the front. The porch has square chamfered posts and jig-sawn brackets.

This example is an example of the vernacular or ordinary Victorian house. Very small and simple, it nevertheless has a decorative entrance hood and fancy porch details on the wing, ornamental features which relieve the essential plainness of the building. It was built about 1870 and for thirty years was the home of Samuel L. Moffitt, a mason and carpenter.
